February’s Letter from The Curator (2023)

Dear Friends,

Welcome to February with thrushes and blackbirds singing and snowdrops just starting to show themselves in the garden.  Some people find February miserable but I find it the doorway to Spring and renewal.  Here at Tutbury Castle we can see that the bulbs planted last autumn are going to fill the beds and entrance.  We have a brilliant gardener, and he has an equally brilliant helper so a huge ‘thank you’ to our groundsmen who have spent the winter completely redecorating the castle to a high standard as you will see when you visit.  The gardens are equally overhauled and of particular interest will be the scented beds of lily-of-the valley going in all over the castle grounds as well as tulips in all their glorious colours.

Our new events leaflet will be out soon so you can see some of the key dates in Spring and Summer.  It is not exhaustive as events will be added throughout as guests want to see a particular character so we put on an event.

You are very welcome to make any enquiries on 01283 812129 or by e-mail – bookings@lesleysmithhistorians.co.uk or if you are planning your wedding and would like a fairy-tale version at a real castle, contact weddings@lesleysmithhistorians.co.uk

We have a happy band of people working here supporting the castle and looking forward to welcoming you at Easter

Best wishes,

Lesley Smith
